Hello colleagues! L.K. Quinsland here. I am currently teaching in the Department of Science and Mathematics at NTID. My time is split between courses for non-science baccalaureate students and courses for students in our new Laboratory Science Technology (LST) AAS-level program.

I have been a member of CAID since 1973, the year I attended my first conference (or was that my father?). I have always felt the need for establishing and maintaining easy and relevant communication lines for those of us who work with deaf and hard of hearing students.

To that end, I am interested in establishing a network for teachers who work with deaf students in science and technology contexts. We will be setting up a science and technology LIST SERVE through the generous assistance of Colleagues at Kent State University. People who have been members of CAID science SIGs in the past, as well as others I have identified through contacts in the field, will be invited to join the list serve. Using networked email, members of the list serve will be able to contact each other 24/7 by posting statements to the list serve. I anticipate that some members will be quite active (i.e., posting, receiving replies, responding…) while others will be satisfied to read the postings of others. The idea is implement a mechanism for easy access of information and collegial sharing.

If you are interested in “checking out” this new opportunity (with no expense to you), please send 1. your email address; 2. your first and last names; at 3. to lkq9999@rit.edu; and, 4. please label Subject: “CAID S/T SIG”.

Let’s work together to decrease the distance between us, to share ideas and to improve the learning of our students.

Best wishes,
