Mission
Hi, my name is Rosemary Stifter, and I am the new representative for Region 2. I am excited to be in this new role and hope to meet each of you personally or virtually.I have been involved in Deaf Education for almost 20 years and my experience ranges from teaching or working with deaf students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds and at ages ranging from preschool to college level. As the daughter of deaf parents, I attended their alma mater, Gallaudet University, to earn a Masters degree in Deaf Education. After graduation, I taught in the elementary and high school mainstreamed program in Fairfax County Public Schools in VA and as the Instructional Technology Specialist that supported all the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Programs in the county.
Currently, I work as an Instructional Technology Specialist at the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University. I assist teachers and staff in all aspects of using technology to improve the achievement levels of students and to integrate computer technology into the instructional process. I worked primarily at Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES) for 9 years and now at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD). I was a mentor for the ASL/English Bilingual Professional Development Program, which focuses on ASL/English bilingual methodology and staff development at the Clerc Center. In 2004, I was honored to be named Ed Tech Leader of the year by Technology and Learning magazine.
