Mission

Hello, everyone. My name is Chad E. Smith, and I am the new Region 4 Representative for CAID. I am delighted to serve our members from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas. I look forward to a productive and positive experience together.

I currently serve as the Director of Deaf Education Teacher Preparation at Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas. After a decade of teaching at all three levels (elementary, middle, and high school), I completed my Ph.D. and moved to the university level to train future teachers of the deaf. My educational background includes a B.A. in Spanish and an M.S. in Deaf Education from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and a Ph.D. in Computing Technology in Education from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

As your Representative to the CAID Board, please know that I'm here to serve you. We are in the middle of a very important time in the lives of our students. Our K-12 students are facing continued hurdles with a variety of educational and legislative issues. Our teachers and pre-service teachers also face mounting challenges to be successful in deaf education placements.  For those of you who are members, I thank you and look forward to our dialogues and interaction.
